21 RISING SYNC RELEASES SPELLBINDING ‘SOMEBODY’S HERO’
Based in Santa Clara, California, pop-rock artist Joey Gonzales recently released another contagious song, “Somebody’s Hero,” via the 21 Rising Sync banner.
Written by Tom Spakoski, the song commemorates the efforts of the men and women working in healthcare during COVID-19.
Joey’s music is closely influenced by his personal experiences, ranging from being a father, a touring musician, and traveling the bumpy road of divorce.
Growing up with only his mother, Joey embraced music from a young age, listening to Journey, Elvis, Bon Jovi, Babyface, and Sam Cooke, along with an array of others. For Joey, music was a conduit running from his emotions to the external world, a way to express his inner feelings.
As he grew older, music was displaced by his love for sports. Yet an injury re-opened the door to his return to music’s embrace. He became part of a Gospel Rock Band, which dropped an album. At a turning point in his career, Joey decided to go it alone, touring for two years, during which he found the woman who would later become his wife.
There’s an edgy, raw quality to the song reminiscent of Chris Isaak.
Once married, Joey’s musical ambitions remained unabated. Yet for a brief period, he stopped, giving his attention to his family. Upon his return to music, the importance of family became clouded, resulting in marital problems. With divorce looming, somehow reconciliation occurred, followed by the final dissolution of the marriage, followed by the inevitable pain and regret of lost love chronicled on Joey’s The Burn EP.
“Somebody’s Hero” travels on low smoldering tones capped by gleaming accents as Joey’s affluent tones imbue the lyrics with impassioned energy.
“Give me the strength / So I can be / Open my eyes / So I can see / I need a love that sets me free / And the grace to fill my heart.”
A cavernous, rolling bassline gives the rhythm a deep undulating flow, while gorgeous suffusions of strings add tender, opulent washes of color. There’s an edgy, raw quality to the song reminiscent of Chris Isaak.
On “Somebody’s Hero,” 21 Rising Sync serves up alluring music chock-full of intoxicating emotional intensity.
