One of my all-time favorite artists – Betty Moon – recently released the music video for “Save My Soul,” the first single from her forthcoming album, Hellucination, slated to drop later this year.
“Save My Soul” narrates the tale of the universal desire for salvation. As Moon says, “Doesn't everyone feel like they need saving? Our world is in chaos and America is filled with hatred and animosity. Nobody is excluded here, there is some massive change with more love and empathy needed for this world to become a better place.”
Originally from Toronto, and now based in Los Angeles, the multi-talented Moon began her music career when she signed with A&M, going on to achieve international success and fame as a singer, songwriter, producer, and filmmaker. Her 2017 album, Chrome, churned out top hits like “Parachute,” “Sound,” “Life Is But A Dream,” and the heavyweight “Natural Disaster.”
“Save My Soul” opens on pulsing electro-rock colors and a muscular beat flowing into a radiant electro-pop tune riding a cavernous bass line and metallic percussion. Glimmering synths infuse the tune with iridescent surfaces and oscillating undulations.
Tantalizing and elusively nuanced, her tones blend sultry pop ambiance with alluring dream pop energy.
Moon’s voice, cap-a-pie with velvety timbres, imbues the lyrics with smoldering sensuality and dazzling flavors. Tantalizing and elusively nuanced, her tones blend sultry pop ambiance with alluring dream pop energy.
The video, directed and produced by Betty Moon and her team at Evolver, was shot in Hollywood and at Leo Carrillo Beach in Malibu, CA. It depicts two different woman linked by their shopping carts. One woman’s cart holds everything she owns, while the other woman’s cart runneth over with kitschy consumption and wealth. Both need miraculous salvation from their circumstances.
The street woman eventually finds salvation, as she is delivered by an angel on the beach. The visuals present a stylized representation of personal resurrection, both captivating and poignant.
With “Save My Soul,” Betty Moon once more demonstrates her genius for amalgamating pop, rock, and electro elements into gorgeously infectious music.
