AVA CHERRY DISHES POSH NU-POP ON 'TESTIFY LOVE'
Minutes ago, Ava Cherry released her latest single/music video, entitled “Testify Love,” on Mymy Madyy Pepper Gomez’s flourishing label, Wake Up! Music.
Ava Cherry’s life is like something from an enchanted fairytale, a combination of The Wizard of Oz and Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland. She grew up in Chicago, where she fell under the magic of Gladys Knight and Aretha Franklin. Later, in NYC, she modeled and worked at Genesis, one of the city’s premier hotspots. At an after-party, she encountered David Bowie, whom she followed to Europe, where the two became lovers and musical collaborators.
Cherry, along with Luther Vandross and Robin Clark sang back-up for Bowie. Known as the Astronettes, the trio trotted the globe on tour with Bowie, playing in front of sold-out audiences and rubbing shoulders with John Lennon and the Rolling Stones.
In 1978, Cherry returned to Chicago, signing with Curtom/RSO Records and releasing “Love Is Good News,” a song by Cherry and Curtis Mayfield. She followed with an album, Ripe!!! Switching to Capitol Records, she then released Streetcar Named Desire, followed by working with Luther Vandross on his album, Any Love, followed by releasing her solo effort, Picture Me in 1986.

Since then, Ava Cherry released People From Bad Homes, recorded in 1973, and produced by David Bowie. The album featured four songs by Bowie, who also sang on one of the tracks, “I Am Divine.” The album didn’t see the light of day until 1995, but is a constant reminder of Cherry’s talent and commitment.
2009 saw the release of The Astronettes Sessions, followed by Cherry working with big-name producers on a series of projects, including “Right From The Heart” and “That’s How Loneliness Goes.”
Last year, Ava Cherry signed with Chicago-Miami-based Wake Up! Music, founded by Mymy Madyy Pepper Gomez, whose stable of artists includes A Killer’s Confession, Matt Warren, Ralphi Rosario and Craig J. Snider, along with an ever-expanding list of top-notch performers.
Almost immediately, Cherry released her heady, infectious remake of Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” which became an overnight success. Now she’s back with another nu-pop hit, “Testify Love.”
“Testify Love” opens on glossy, shimmering colors riding a compelling dance beat, blending pulsating EDM textures with delectable nu-pop energy. Cherry’s creamy vocals, backed by glowing harmonies, infuse the lyrics with sensuous flavors and surging eroticism, as she proclaims the power of love.
